What to Expect When Getting a Root Canal
There are two words known to incite terror in even the strongest of people: root canal. The thing is, you don’t need to fear this procedure. A skilled endodontist like the ones at Night & Day Dental in Raleigh will get you through this treatment as quickly and easily as possible. And we’ll make sure it doesn’t hurt too much, either.
About the Procedure
A thorough exam will reveal if your tooth has decayed to the point that you need your root removed. During this time, ask your dentist any questions you have about the procedure and whether there are alternative approaches that would meet your needs. Make sure you’re comfortable with the game plan, and then schedule your root canal treatment.
Do not panic. This is a simple process that isn’t as painful as some people say. When you show up for your appointment you’ll be made comfortable, including being given adequate numbing medication so you won’t feel anything. The doctor will then remove your tooth’s root, clean out the inside and stuff it so nothing can get in there.
Once you leave the office, don’t eat or drink until your numbness subsides. You’ll brush and floss as normal, and keep an eye on the stability of your filling. If your face swells or you have other reactions such as hives, a rash or nausea, contact our office right away. Also let us know if your bite feels uneven or your tooth still hurts.
