What to Expect When Getting Dental Bridges
If you are missing one or more teeth, dental bridges may be a great option for you. At Night & Day Dental in Raleigh, our experienced office staff will make this procedure comfortable and simple, so that you can sit back, relax and look forward to your new smile.
What Is a Bridge?
A dental bridge is a false tooth that is fashioned to look and function the same as a natural one. It is often called a pontic and can be created to exactly match your personal tooth color, size and shape. A well-made bridge will blend in with your existing smile and give you the ability to eat and speak in the same manner as you did before your tooth was lost.
The Steps of the Procedure
There are a variety of methods for fastening a replacement tooth to the surrounding mouth structure, and your dentist will recommend the best way to ensure your comfort and the longevity of your bridges once the procedure is complete. If you have a natural tooth on either side of the gap, attaching the replacement is considered traditional. In this method, an adjacent tooth is filed down to hold a crown that then supports the bridge.
If you are missing more than one tooth, it is often advisable to have at least one tooth implant inserted to support the false tooth. A titanium rod is added and left to heal for several months before the implant and bridge can be completed. Once healed, a permanent crown and the adjacent bridge are set in.We provide specialized care, including dental veneers and pediatric dentist services, for patients in Chapel Hill and Durham as well as the neighboring communities of Apex and Cary.
