Comprehensive Exams
Without a doubt, the first line of defense against tooth decay, stains, plaque build-up, and future dental problems is daily brushing and flossing. However, there is only one way to gain full protection against these common dental issues – regular six-month checkups with your dentist in Durham. Through regular exams, you can be confident that your teeth and gums are in good shape. Tooth decay and bacteria don’t always appear on the surface of the teeth. On many occasions, patients visit us and are surprised to learn they have plaque buildup on their gum line and between their teeth. Our caring dentists are able to identify these potential issues early and remove harmful bacteria. Typical exams at Night & Day Dental are simple yet comprehensive. We offer dental cleanings with x-rays, fluoride treatment, and a comprehensive, high-tech evaluation of your oral health. After your exam, we discuss your best treatment options and piece together a customized care plan. Without a doubt, you are in great hands when you visit our dentists in Durham! As part of our commitment to helping patients attain improved health, we offer a dental savings plan for our uninsured visitors. This plan includes:
Oral Hygiene Care
Your health is of paramount importance to our dental teams in the Durham area. Therefore, we provide dedicated cleaning and hygiene appointments when you visit our offices. Dental hygiene is imperative to keep your teeth and gums healthy, functional, and looking beautiful.
Oral hygiene visits revolve around your at-home habits. Our hygienist will examine your teeth and provide feedback on your daily brushing and flossing. During this time, you won’t be judged or lectured to but rather will enjoy helpful advice and a kind discussion about areas you can improve. After the exam, we may recommend a professional cleaning. This involves your fully-trained hygienist removing any excess plaque from your teeth and polishing them for a natural-looking finish.
If there are signs of periodontal disease (gum disease) then we may ask you to book another appointment. Alternatively, our front desk team will schedule you in for your regular checkup in six months.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Cancer of the mouth and neck causes one death every hour according to the Oral Cancer Foundation. Some individuals wait too long to be diagnosed or don’t get diagnosed at all. At Night and Day Dental, we provide oral cancer screenings to all our patients. We want the best for you and sincerely believe these screenings can save your life!
Oral cancer screenings are non-invasive and should be completed once a year. Our skilled dentists use their training to detect the early signs of oral cancer. These can include raised lesions, red or white patches, hard lumps, or bleeding in the mouth. Through early diagnosis, we dramatically increase the chance of survival and can recommend effective treatment options too.
I went in with an emergency dental matter today. The staff at this office are great! Very attentive and helpful. They made me feel so relaxed and comfortable. I will definitely go back to this office for my dental needs.

Periodontics
Periodontics refers to the area of dentistry that focuses on your gums. Studies have shown that unhealthy gums can lead to both dental and whole-health complications. Our dental office in Durham, NC is equipped with professionals trained in periodontics who can assess your gum health during your six-month checkups. If we detect any signs of periodontal or gum disease, we provide a unique treatment plan to prevent it from spreading.
Common symptoms of periodontal disease include:
If the disease is mild, our dental hygienist can provide professional cleanings to prevent the spread and get you back to health. However, if more severe, it may be necessary to treat the gums with scaling and root planing. This is a more extensive deep cleaning that goes below the gum line to remove decay and bacteria.
Through regular checkups, you can prevent the spread of periodontal disease and enjoy a healthier smile.
Sealants
Night & Day Dental practices are open to the whole family. We see patients of all ages and truly care about improving the health of those in our communities. With this in mind, our dental offices offer dental sealants to those who are struggling to prevent tooth decay.
Sealants are an ideal solution for patients struggling to reach all areas of their teeth through daily brushing. This can lead to plaque buildup on the tooth surface and around the gumline. The primary cause of this buildup is debris becoming trapped in the small grooves on the surface of your teeth. If left untreated, the plaque can lead to more severe issues, such as tooth decay and gum disease. Younger patients find it hard to remove this debris through traditional brushing, which is why dental sealants may be suitable.
This simple procedure involves your caring dentist painting a transparent gel onto the surface of the affected teeth. This gel fills the grooves and hardens, leaving the surface smooth and preventing any debris from becoming trapped.
Sealants can be cared for as you would your natural teeth and are assessed during your regular checkups.
Mouth Guards
Within the field of dentistry, there are a few different types of mouth guards designed to both protect and adjust your teeth. At our Durham dental office, we offer both night guards and sports guards.
Night guards: This custom-made dental appliance can help prevent common jaw and teeth issues caused by bruxism or teeth grinding. The night guard is created using an impression of your teeth allowing for a near-perfect fit. It is to be worn at night when most grinding occurs. If worn habitually, this mouth guard can save your teeth and prevent bite problems such as TMD.
Sports guards: The clue is in the name! Sports guards are to be worn during physical activity where trauma to the mouth or jaw is possible. The American Dental Association recommends all athletes or participants wear a mouth guard that is custom fit for their smile. This is a service we offer at Night & Day Dental!
To be fitted for a mouth guard, we first assess your bite and teeth. If it is the most suitable option, then we take impressions to send to our dental lab. After the mouthpiece is fabricated, your dentist checks the fit and makes any adjustments.
All of our mouth guards are specially designed to fit your individual smile. This helps create a more comfortable result and positive outcomes.
